I am a US Citizen. Do I need to provide proof?
Yes. A passport or Naturalization papers must be presented. If these papers are not available then you will be required to sign a legal document attesting 'legally' that you a citizen of the United States.
Do I have to be a member of USAJudo to compete?
If you are a US Citizen you must be a current member of USAJudo.
If I am a foreign athlete living in the USA, do I need to have a letter of permission to compete in the NY Open from my country's National Governing Judo body?
Yes. This letter is a requirement. Without the letter the athlete cannot compete.
Will the current IJF rules be in effect at the 2009 NY Open?
Yes, the rules that are in force, as issued by the IJF, will be fully implemented at the 2009 NY Open.
Who will determine eligibility of an athlete?
All eligibility issues will be handled by the NY Open competition committee. The committee consists of Mel Appelbaum, John Walla and Arthur Canario.
Who will handle coaching issues?
All coaching issues will be handled by the Competition committee.
Who selects the outstanding player award?
Sensei Yoichiro Matsumura and the competition committee makes the selection.
Who handles referee issues?
Rick Celotto IJF-A, Chief referee, will handle all referee issues. He may call upon the Tournament Director, Mel Appelbaum, IJF-A, when necessary.

Will there be a camp following the competition?
Yes, During the next two days following the competition there will be a camp held at the New York Athletic Club. The times and camp leaders will be announced.
Will I be able to register with USAJudo at registration time?
Yes, Forms will be available. USAJudo Fees must be paid prior to registration..This applies only to US athletes.
Is it mandatory to have a blue and a white GI?
Yes, The NY Open is an international B level event and all IJF rules are in effect.
